Identification: The Common Silverfish has metallic steel-gray scales. The Gray Silverfish have their bodies covered with dull, silver to gray scales. Firebrats may appear slightly silvery, but usually appear mottled with patches of light and dark scales. Both silverfish and firebrats are capable of swift movements. Silverfish are known for their ability to move sideways or even jump when disturbed. Since their bodies are flattened, they can find harborage in very small cracks and crevices, even in the confines of narrow book bindings, loose pages in books or the corrugations of card board boxes. Health & property concerns: Silverfish roam around for food sources, but once they have found a satisfactory source, they remain close to it. Silverfish eat dried beef ravenously, fighting each other for food. They are also cannibalistic; eating cast skins and other dead or injured silverfish. Silverfish can also extensively damage paper and books. Call Hot Shots Pest Control for a FREE ESTIMATE! (805) 966-3075 |
